Boss Project

Boss Project is a woman-owned online education company, dedicated to helping people build a sustainable, profitable businesses their way.

After changes in the company’s leadership, it was time for a brand fresh look that reflected the vibrancy, freedom, and experience the owner shared with her clients and students.

brand identity & vibe

They needed a brand to match their independent, vibrant spirit.

Boss Project’s mission is straightforward: they want to see more small business owners financially free.

So when it came time to design the brand, I wanted to emphasize trustworthiness, stability, approachability, and freedom. A vibrant blue tone paired with warm neutrals, a bold yet elevated logo design, and infusions of handmade elements brought everything together seamlessly.

logo design

I wanted to hold on to the same feeling of the old logo, but build in more flexibility.

Creating a logo that scaled well, could be left, center, or right aligned, or even easily stacked was at the top priority.

We chose a similar font to their original—even sticking within the same small foundry—but customized characters in subtle ways to call back to their original design. The varying weights keeps some hierarchy while allowing for scalability at the same time.

Custom flat lay photography added approachability.

Robots don’t build businesses (at least yet). People do.

There are so many companies trying to help small business owners become successful online. Abagail’s unique approach to teaching is how she works with entrepreneurs to help them prepare for the inevitable ups and downs of life.

No business comes out of the box perfect. No life is without its struggles. Rather than painting over those less than picturesque parts, Abagail teaches how to find strength, character, and success in vulnerability.

The photography helps build on this approachability and vulnerability by visually showcasing process.

website design

The website was built to hold attention and build credibility with surprise and delight.

Small, well-built moments of user interaction keep interest and build authority. Showing that true energy and thought went into building the site implies a wealth of time and resources that can only come with success.

This website is full of clever elements that make updating and expanding in the future super simple.

Running a small business requires agility and flexibility. I wanted to make the site as simple as possible for her to update pages, products, or even branding over time—even for her large site with over 500 blog posts, 900 podcast show notes, and over a dozen courses and programs.

See some custom solutions I implemented on the right.

website documentation

These custom solutions meant documentation was extra important.

It’s important to me that each of my web clients can update their site’s images and copy, and add new pages without needing knowledge of (or ideally even needing to touch) the code.

Abagail received a 9-page document outlining everything she needed to know about triggering the code, should she want to build new pages and sections. For this document, I recorded in-depth video tutorials and included screenshots of examples and quick bullet points to make it easy to skim and find what she’s looking for.

client experience

Branded Flodesk email templates created a consistent client experience for subscribers, and made content creation faster and easier for Abagail.

The last step in the project was transferring the branding to a set of Flodesk templates to be used in their email marketing.

These emails were designed with flexibility in mind. With dedicated designs for Sunday Newsletters, podcast and blog emails, marketing launches, and lead magnet delivery, Abagail can pull and customize the elements that are relevant for that particular email and leave out the rest.

“Caitlin didn’t just make the site beautiful, she made it intuitive. Her eye for design and commitment to accessibility—everything from color contrast to font choices—is unlike anything I’ve seen from other designers. She didn’t just listen to my ideas, but elevated them.
